If you have come this far, you might want to know who I am.
My name is Edy Skreinig.
I am a mother, English teacher and painter. In that order.
My story is like any other story that is detailed for hours and at the end will lead us to this point in the present where we are. But I will spare you the details, they are more exciting in person and with a good glass of Chianti anyway. I live in Austria. I like it here, so I decided to stay for a while. This "while" now lasts almost twenty years, possible end date unknown.
I love to travel, I have been to many places and have been interested in many things, but painting has taken up a large part of my life and is one of the things I like best.
To be exact, I have been involved with it for half a lifetime!
And no, I have no intention of being a great or famous artist. But I am very sincere and authentic in what I paint, and I think that is reflected in the paintings. After all, I want to show my best sides with them!
I have been halfway to the hundred for a few months now (let's see how far we get!)
I am very direct and open, and I am a very proud mother of four great people (and "grandmother" of two strange dogs).
I invest most of my time in family and work, and for these two tasks I am always active and energetic.
I love teaching what I know to others and when I teach I explain a lot, and I do it with heart and soul.
When everything is done and only when the feeling is right and only I am left... Then I paint.
When I am calm, my hands do the talking.
My paintings capture my personal observations, both from memory and through invention.
Sometimes they can speak out loud and are assertive, lively and sociable. And sometimes they are quiet, discreet and introspective. For me they are simplicity, truth, dreams, possibilities and wishes.
My goal is to create a safe haven through pictures, to welcome those who see my paintings as a kind of window. Windows that show a place where you can get lost and be away for a while, where you can look for answers to questions, and even with a little luck maybe even find inner peace or even an adventure. The windows to the inner self.
Be warned: maybe after you look out of this "window" you will not be the same person you were before!
It is worth the journey, so I invite you to meditate and philosophize with this trip into your inner self.
And I hope that you enjoy the view as well.
